43% of the world’s smallholder farmers are women, but they tend to operate on a smaller scale than their male counterparts, resulting in lower yields. This is largely due to their lack of access to finances and resources.
Our social objective is to empower these female farmers to become sustainable income generators within their homes. We achieve this through initiatives such as the Women's International Honey Producers Association & The Walk with Women & Children. We donate beehives, provide training on correct harvesting techniques, and facilitate direct access to markets via our inclusive value chains that off-take their harvested products at economically fair prices.
To date, we have empowered over 1,200 female farmers in this manner. Given a standard 1:5 impact ratio between the financial impact on an African woman and the impact on her household, we can estimate that this has gone on to further impact 6,000 lives!
Climate change destroys crops and disrupts food transport, which intensifies food insecurity. These climate crises disproportionately affect rural female farmers and their children.
The 25% increase in crop yields gained from pollination by bees in our donated beehives means more food available within their communities and/or increased income when these crops are sold.
Additionally, more pollination leads to increased plant reproduction, which supports everything up the food chain, resulting in healthier ecosystems!
